Ebook About The best-selling book on heart disease, updated with the latest research and clinical findings on high-fat/ketogenic diets, sugar, genetics, and other factors. Heart disease is the #1 killer. However, traditional heart disease protocols—with their emphasis on lowering cholesterol—have it all wrong. Emerging science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as ineffective low-fat/high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. Even doctors at leading institutions have been misled for years based on creative reporting of research results from pharmaceutical companies intent on supporting the $31-billion-a-year cholesterol-lowering drug industry. The Great Cholesterol Myth reveals the real culprits of heart disease, including: inflammation, fibrinogen, triglycerides, homocysteine, belly fat, triglyceride to HDL ratios, and high glycemic levels. Best-selling health authors Jonny Bowden, PhD, and Stephen Sinatra, MD, give readers a four-part strategy based on the latest studies and clinical findings for effectively preventing, managing, and reversing heart disease, focusing on diet, exercise, supplements, and stress and anger management. Myths vs. FactsMyth: High cholesterol is the cause of heart disease.Fact: Cholesterol is only a minor player in the cascade of inflammation which is a cause of heart disease.Myth: Saturated fat is dangerous.Fact: Saturated fats are not dangerous. The killer fats are the transfats from partially hydrogenated oils. Myth: The higher the cholesterol, the shorter the lifespan.Fact: Higher cholesterol protects you from gastrointestinal disease, pulmonary disease, and hemorrhagic stroke.Myth: High cholesterol is a predictor of heart attack.Fact: There is no correlation between cholesterol and heart attacks.Myth: Lowering cholesterol with statin drugs will prolong your life.Fact: There is no data to show that statins have a significant impact on longevity.Myth: Statin drugs are safe.Fact: Statin drugs can be extremely toxic including causing death.Myth: Statin drugs are useful in men, women, and the elderly.Fact: Statin drugs do the best job in middle-aged men with coronary disease.Myth: Statin drugs are useful in middle-aged men with coronary artery disease because of its impact on cholesterol.Fact: Statin drugs reduce inflammation and improve blood viscosity (thinning blood). Statins are extremely helpful in men with low HDL and coronary artery disease.Book The Great Cholesterol Myth, Revised and Expanded: Why Lowering Your Cholesterol Won't Prevent Heart Disease--and the Statin-Free Plan that Will Review :
I was married to my soul mate. We were together 20 years, more than half that time he was living with congestive heart failure and the last NINE years he had "End Stage CHF" with initially a prognosis of less than 2 weeks to live. We had NINE more years together before he passed away - of not heart issues. How? In March 2008 when our world shattered and a hospital team accidentally killed him then resuscitated him after 2 minutes and 21 seconds with "torsade des pointes" we walked away from western medicine, fired the team of doctors, disposed of the NINE medications they had him on and learned to embrace life. All after I was told cardiac rehab is "for the living." You can bet we were frustrated. I was THAT wife. I made sure I took my guy to his preventative appointments, I lectured him about his blood pressure, I made sure he took ALL his medications including that awful statin drug, same as I watched my stepmom do with my father (and they all died despite following their doctors advice to a T.) My mom died of heart failure when I was 12yo. Dad had had a quad bypass by the time I was in my 30s. My stepmom endured horrible stuff before she passed away. My first husband had lived with end stage CHF for 9 years. Widowed and now remarried, my current husband has had heart problems since 2003 - and now is free of heart symptoms after he too tossed all his meds including the statins and walked away from western medicine (just prior to our meeting - I love he found this path before we met!)So the thing in common is we were all prescribed statin drugs. None of us had "high cholesterol" and those who continued taking statins died of heart disease and cancer anyway. Today my lipid panel is ideal and my husband's is a perfect trio of 60s - good, bad and triglycerides are each in the 60s. I've NEVER seen good cholesterol in the 60s! But we aren't taking statins so how'd we do it?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!We ARE living life, we ARE enjoying foods. NO artificial sweeteners. NO "low fat" crap. NO "diet" crap. Good old wholesome foods. My husband LOVES oysters and seafood so I encourage him to eat as much of those awesome canned oysters as he wants. We use REAL fats in cooking - real butter, olive oil, avocado oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, algae oil and occasionally peanut oil. We use TONS of herbs and spices, most of which are known to fight oxidation and inflammation - those are the real culprits. We use REAL foods - we raise our own chickens, ducks and turkeys, we get our beef from a nearby farmer, we raise some of our own fresh herbs and veggies. In doing so we also get LOTS of fresh air and sunshine - all despite both being physically disabled. I have severe mobility issues. But I sit in a plastic chair while I work our gardens. Sure I'm slower, but I still participate as I'm able.Back to the Great Cholesterol Myth and Dr. Stephen Sinatra. When my first husband was sent home with end stage CHF and such a grim prognosis friends introduced me to Dr. Sinatra's research and the awesome foursome (magnesium, l-carnitine, d-ribose which I add to lemon water for an awesome real lemonade! and co-enzymeQ10 which I prefer as PQQ today) which I am CERTAIN is what restored his heart health and gave us 9 more years together. Read my review under the book Sinatra Solution if you want the crazy long version and play by play of those 9 years. So bottom line is - cholesterol is just a myth. INFLAMMATION is the problem. How do I know this? I carry 13 of 16 known MTHFR mutations. I KNOW inflammation. I endure inflammation. My family genetics is chock full of MTHFR genes. All my relatives have some sort of serious heart condition. ALL RELATED TO INFLAMMATION. NONE of us have had high cholesterol. The Great Cholesterol Myth debunks the "standard of care" as outlayed by those corporate interests who's bottom line is based upon GREED. The Great Cholesterol Myth provides solid information to empower you to face up to those who were trained within the Big Pharma paradigm and empower yourself to take control over your health and take back power over your health once and for all.Do yourself a favor - read every book you can find by both Dr. Stephen Sinatra and Johnny Bowden. Then read every book you can by Dr. Joel Wallach ND DVM and his wife Dr. Ma Lan MD OMD. If you really want to blow your mind about Vibrational Medicine then follow Richard Gerber, too. Between these wellness professionals, people who were TRAINED IN THE MYTHS OF CONVENTIONAL WESTERN MEDICINE then found the TRUTH, you will find a common thread - that many prescriptions, particularly statin drugs, are not doing the body good. Anyone wanting the truth about heart disease, cholesterol and statins, will find The Great Cholesterol Myth a great summary book to numerous other articles and books on the subject not paid for by Big Pharma.I have been monitoring my ‘cholesterol’ level for over 15 years, and according to ‘the numbers’ provided by the standard lipid profile blood test, I should be on statins. In 2015 I read the first edition of this book. I already knew, all LDLs are not BAD, and all HDLs are not GOOD, but didn’t know many of the reasons why.The book describes the standard ‘lipid profile’ blood test which is what most doctor’s order to test ‘cholesterol’ levels, and then subsequently prescribe statins. The lipid profile test only provides 3 measurements.Total Cholesterol (TC)Triglycerides (TR)HDL cholesterol (HDL)The following 3 additional measurements are calculated from the above.LDL calculated formula is: TC - HDL – (TR / 5.0) (mg/dL)Cholesterol to HDL ratio is: TC / HDLVLDL calculated is: TR/5Further breakdown of the types of LDLs and HDLs are required to provide better information regarding the types of cholesterol. Both VAP (Vertical Auto Profile) and Cardio IQ Advanced LIPID panel provide LDL breakdowns to identify the LDL Pattern A (Large Bouyant - good) or Pattern B (small dense - bad). Connecting the dots, people with high glucose levels, appear to be more apt to have Pattern B, LDLs.The book suggests the real cause of heart disease is insulin resistance and diabetes, both impacted by inflammation. The one good thing statins do when lowering LDLs, is reduce inflammation. However, there are numerous ‘non-statin’ options to reduce inflammation. The book points out that LDLs are needed for many things including brain function. Brain-fog is one of the side affects many people experience after going on statins to reduce LDL levels. The key message I get out of this book to reduce risks of coronary disease, is to reduce insulin resistance, which can be done by dietary means.I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn the truth about cholesterol and heart disease.
